The Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular is Connecticut’s official kickoff to the holiday season and one of the largest giant-balloon parades in the country. Character balloons, marching bands and dance groups fill Downtown Stamford the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It’s a great alternative to the crowds at the Macy’s parade.

The Balloon Inflation Party
The evening before, watch the giant balloons come to life on Hoyt Street with live music, performances and Santa appearances. It’s a smaller-scale version of the famous Macy’s balloon inflation in Manhattan.
Return on December 6 for Heights & Lights.
About Downtown Stamford
Stamford is Connecticut’s second-largest city and a major business center, about 45 minutes from Grand Central on Metro-North. Its downtown, around Bedford Street, Latham Park and the Stamford Town Center mall, has plenty of restaurants and shops, and the Stamford Downtown Special Services District organizes its big seasonal events.
Tips
- Arrive an hour early for a curbside spot.
- Bring a blanket or something warm to sit on for little ones.
- Check the official route and street closures before you go.
- Metro-North is the easiest way in from New York; Stamford station is a short walk from downtown.
Why It’s Worth the Trip
The giant balloons rival those of the big Thanksgiving parade, but the crowds are smaller, the viewing is easier and families can get right up to the curb.
