About the Rink
Abe Stark Rink is an indoor, NYC Parks–run rink on the Coney Island Boardwalk, named for a former Brooklyn borough president. It’s home to local hockey and skating programs, with public skating sessions on weekends and school holidays. Because it’s indoors, it’s a reliable choice when the weather is bad.
Plan Your Visit
- Public sessions are limited to weekend afternoons and school holidays, so check the schedule before you go.
- Skate-assist sleds help young beginners.
- Dress in layers; indoor rinks are still cold.
Coney Island in Winter
The amusement parks are closed for the season, but the boardwalk is open year-round for a bracing winter walk with ocean views. Nathan’s Famous on Surf Avenue is open, and the New York Aquarium is nearby. On New Year’s Day, the beach hosts the Polar Bear Plunge.
